Disposing of the Communion Elements
Just as with any meal, the Lord’s Supper includes preparation and cleanup that is not a visible part of our service but is still a very important part of worship.
We believe the elements should be disposed of with respect and reverence. We do that by taking the leftover bread and juice to the Memorial Garden, where we scatter the bread to nourish God’s creatures and return the juice to the earth by pouring it on the ground.
The children in particular enjoy assisting with this task. All are welcome to join us in the garden after the 11 a.m. service on Communion Sundays to complete the Lord’s Supper.
