Notes and thoughts on Rev. Dr. Ed Peterson’s message on August 17, 2014
Rev. Dr. Ed Peterson’s sermon asked the question: “How Big is Your Bible?” He spoke to the fact that we ignore much of the Bible, living by our own “little bible” with easy-to-follow passages.
We must allow God to speak to us in the difficult passages and know that some things cannot be explained. We often focus on facts and ignore the mystery, symbolism and poetry of the Old Testament. As 21st century people used to our comfortable lifestyles, we are not familiar with the ancient cultures which influenced Scripture.
A “comfortable Gospel” was not what God promised. We are to read the whole Bible and put ourselves in the stories, letting the truths of Scripture guide us and allow God to show His love for us.
