During his message on June 29, Rev. Dr. Dan Williams shared some thoughts and observations on recent actions taken at the PC(USA) General Assembly.

He pointed out that of the hundreds of issues addressed by the GA, only a few controversial ones are receiving the attention of the secular media. And the one that is getting the most attention is the one on marriage — specifically, the recommendations that would allow “pastoral discretion” in performing same-sex marriages where such marriages are legal and that would change language regarding marriage in the Book of Order.

Rev. Dr. Williams stressed that these recommendations will not have an immediate impact on the individual congregations and changes to the Book of Order must go through the process of approval by presbyteries.

He said: “Trust in God and remain calm. God’s call to us is to continue to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ.”
